There are two significant things in the news. First, the snow survey folks tell KOTA-TV that the snowpack in the Northern Black Hills is 140 percent of normal. They say that because the ground is not frozen, much of the water will seep into the ground. Bad news for reservoirs, good news for streams and wells.

The other story is from NPR. It seems that the oceans have not warmed over the past four years.

Heavy snow will continue over southeast Wyoming today, spreading into southwestern South Dakota and western Nebraska this afternoon, then spreading across southern South Dakota tonight. By Tuesday morning, 12 or more inches will fall on Casper, Lusk, Edgemont, Pine Ridge, east to Lake Andes. In some spots, 18 inches of snow will fall. Rapid City will see a storm total of 2 to 5 inches, and Pierre will also pick up to 2 to 5 inches. Spearfish will likely see 2 to 4 inches by Tuesday morning.

Look for some big snow flakes out of this moisture-laden storm system.
