Tomorrow looks great with highs of 70-75 despite some patchy fog for the morning hours. Friday a cold front will be draped from west to east across the area with temperatures in the 50s across North Dakota, Montana and in the the low 60s across the northern tier of South Dakota's counties. Readings along the Nebraska border will be in the 70s. Saturday will be about 10 degrees colder.

Tropical storm Karl is near the east side of the Yucatan Peninsula and it will reach Tampico this Saturday. Igor is still headed for Bermuda and Julia will stay behind and southeast of Igor. The hurricanes should have an interesting affect on Atlantic water temperatures because long-lived storms such as Igor churn and upwell cold water from the depths of the sea, bring it to the surface, mixing the water and cooling the sea surface.

Thunderstorms rumbled across only part of the region last night. The green (0.8"-1.8"), yellow(1.9"- 2.9") and red (more than 3") colors show where the heaviest precipitation fell. Showers will linger into the afternoon today and that will hold the temperature back to 55-60 at the higher elevations of the Black Hills, 60-65 on the plains, and near 70 across southwest and south central South Dakota.
